$2.2M of stolen Bored Apes frozen by OpenSea

OpenSea froze the stolen non-fungible tokens (NFT) worth about $2.2 million.

The NFT marketplace OpenSea has frozen 16 Bored Ape and Mutant Ape NFTs after they were stolen yesterday from a New York art gallery operator.

The collection includes Clonex, 7 Mutant Ape Yacht Club, and 8 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs priced for 615 ETH worth about $2.28 million at the current value were stolen. However, they couldn't be traded on OpenSea.

Furthermore, toddkramer.eth, Ross+Kramer Art Gallery in New York account, tweeted a series of tweets that the 16 NFTs were stolen from his hot wallet. Moreover, the company pleaded to OpenSea and the NFT community for help.

OpenSea responded by freezing all trading on the stolen items. The freeze on buying and selling digital assets got some investors criticizing a lack of decentralization, one of the main aspects of the crypto industry.
