Although scheduled to go completely live in 2022, there are several upgrades that will complete in the final upgrade in 2022. Ethereum Altair is one of those upgrades.
For instance, Altair is the first upgrade to run on the Beacon Chain and it will reportedly fix issues being experienced with the network.
According to the Ethereum development team, The upgrade is set to launch on October 27, at 10:56:23 AM UTC. Also, they gave an exact block that the upgrade will go live due to proof-of-stake (PoS). It will happen on epoch 74240.
With the upcoming upgrade, ETH 2.0 gains one step closer to becoming a reality. ETH 2.0 brings PoS mining to the network. Also, it brings a decreased energy consumption and more efficient mining systems that do not need supercomputers.
Prior to this, Ethereum EIP-1559 was launched recently with a slight delay. However, the Altair upgrade is coming right on time. Moreover, the upgrade will also execute “punitive params” reported in the EIP-2982, and providing client support on the blockchain.
The Ethereum development team said,
“This upgrade brings light-client support to the core consensus, cleans up beacon state incentive accounting, fixes some issues with validator incentives, and steps up the punitive params as per EIP-2982.”
