Mastercard International Inc., a global payment facilitator, has filed 15 trademarks for the metaverse and NFTs, as it seeks to become a key player in the virtual economy.
According to a tweet sent out on April 8 by non-fungible tokens (NFT) and metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis, Mastercard has filed fifteen new trademark applications to register Mastercard, its "Circles" emblem, and the "Priceless" motto.
Patents submitted with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on April 4, 2022 will cover a variety of virtual, crypto, and financial products and services.
Mr. Kondoudis stated:
“Mastercard is a leading financial brand, and the value attached to the brand is significant. These filings are the next logical step to protect the Mastercard brand as it enters the Metaverse.”
The lawyer continued by saying that Mastercard recognizes the Metaverse's potential and is preparing its trademarks and brand for the upcoming virtual economy. Mastercard will almost certainly be a prominent role in that virtual economy, says the lawyer.
What does it mean when Mastercard registers a trademark?
The payment giant has filed trademarks for NFT-backed multimedia, digital products markets, card and payment transaction processing in the Metaverse, and e-commerce software business transactions, among other things.
