The most anticipated Alonzo upgrade launch is set to take place on Sept. 12.

In a video posted on IOHK's official YouTube channel, Head of delivery for Cardano, Nigel Hemsley, talked about the ‘Alonzo’ upgrade on Friday. He noted that the upgrade would bring smart contracts to Cardano via a hard fork combinator (HFC) event.

In addition, he added that the Smart contract would enhance Cardano (ADA) to allow more applications, including decentralized finance (DeFi) for automated digital asset lending and trading.

IOHK also tweeted the news on their Twitter account saying,

"We're targeting 12 September 2021 for the 'Alonzo' upgrade, bringing smart contracts to Cardano via a hard fork combinator event."

Recently Cardano’s Alonzo entered into the “Purple” state. This new stage was preceded by “Blue” and “White.” Also, it was a significant step to launching smart contacts on the largest proof-of-stake blockchain.

As a result of this announcement, Cardano (ADA) surged to $2.23. At the time of writing, Cardano is trading at $2.17, according to CoinMarketCap.
